SCANS AND CLEANS These online virus scan programs both scan and clean files. BitDefender Virus Scanner and Remover Windows, Internet Explorer only. Uses ActiveX BitDefender will scan and clean all files. You can automatically set it to clean infected files or you can choose  what to do if an infected file is found. You are given a full scan report which you can save. Software is installed on your computer when you start the scan, but you can set the program for it to automatically deinstall when you are done.  Trend Micro Free Online Virus Scan and Removal Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP,  Linux , Solaris Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher Mozilla Firefox 1.05 or higher Requires Active X or Java installed  Macintosh: PowerPC G4 or G5 or OSX 10.4 with  Firefox 1.5 or higher The free online anti virus scanner of Trend Micro, named  Housecall, will completely scan your hard drive (it's quite slow - if you have many files, it may take an hour) or files that you choose,  and inform you about virus and spyware threats. It is easy to use, and you can set it to automatically clean files and remove spyware, or you can follow the directions it provides for manually deinstalling spyware.   When the scan is complete,  Trend Micro provides you with a full history and description of any virus found, and  any actions that its virus remover has taken. Virus tracking is anonymous,  and Trend Micro does not collect any personal information from your computer, log your IP address or load any of your files on their server.   Panda Active Virus Scan Requires Windows 2000 or xp, with ActiveX installed.   Panda ActiveScan Free online antivirus  combats viruses, worms and spyware from all files, including email and compressed files. It is updated at least daily. You do not need to install any programs. All you do is connect to the site, and click the Scan Your PC button. You can even create a shortcut to Panda's virus protector to your desktop or Start Menu of your PC so you can access it any time.  Note:  Panda virus protection software did not get as good reviews for 2006 as other antivirus software included here, but its online scan is highly regarded and easy to use.   SCANS AND DIAGNOSES,  DOESNT CLEAN These online virus scan programs will scan your hard drive and diagnose any problems, but will not clean your files. You may of course want to buy their fee-based product, or other  virus protection software if you have a virus on your computer. F-Secure Online Virus Scanner Windows 2000 and XP. IE 6.0 and higher.   ActiveX and JavaScript enabled. Requires download of 18mb virus protection software, which you may deinstall later. Will not disinfect your files, but if a virus is found, you may in most cases get instructions on how to disinfect your computer from the F-Secure web site. Freedom Free Online Virus Scan Windows, with Active-X. This free online anti virus scanner will scan diskettes, cdroms, and network drives as well as your hard drive, and any specific files you choose.  It is browser-based and easy to use, requiring no special configuration or setup. It uses the highly regarded F-Prot professional scan engine.   Symantec Norton Antivirus Scan and Security Check Windows 2000 or XP with Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher,  and ActiveX. The online scanner  for Symantec Antivirus, related to Norton Antivirus software, provides a complete virus detection and security scan from your browser, although it does not check compressed files. The Virus Detection mocdule checks for known threats, including top threats identified by Symantec Security Response. It also provides an analysis of your results and offers suggestions for further action. Included are checks in regard to your exposure to hackers, worms and  trojan horses. You receive an analysis of the results with suggestions for further action (including of course, purchasing Norton Antivirus software!). McAfee Free Online Virus Scan Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP  Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher The free online McAfee Virus Scan can scan your computer completely for viruses and provides you with helpful information from the McAfee Virus Information Library  if a virus is found on your computer.  It does require that you download a file approximately 1.6mb in size. Once you have downloaded it, you simply choose specific files to scan, or all files.  SCAN ONLY CERTAIN FILES These online virus protectors will scan a very limited number of files for you online. They will detect viruses, but will not protect or clean your files. Kapersky Free Online Virus Scan Jotti's Online Malware Scan Virus Total.
